Bill Sjogren describes his efforts in navigation and orbit determination on the Ranger and Lunar Orbiter missions. The Ranger missions helped to recalculate the gravitational mass of the Earth and moon. The Lunar Orbiter missions revealed a detailed gravity field of the moon, which led to the discovery of areas of mass concentrations (mascons).
